Sharon Laing, PhD, Associate Professor at UW Tacoma School of Nursing & Healthcare Leadership and Interim Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, is the recipient of the Sandy Eyres Faculty Appreciation Award. This award is presented to a faculty member who exemplifies outstanding interaction between staff, students, and faculty, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to the school’s mission and goals through mature, professional, courteous, and respectful behavior towards others at the School of Nursing.

Nomination

Dr. Laing has been a key supporter of staff needs and priorities in her brief time as interim Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging. She is curious and cognizant, and has been one of the few leaders who helped me feel seen as a staff member of color. I have seen firsthand her immediate interest in hearing from student voices to identify priorities of her work. While she is aware of the bigger picture, her professional background allows her to always connect the work with the individual person and perspective. This type of professional approach informs what is truly needed and empowers others! I would like to work with more leaders like Sharon to build confidence and energy in the work that I hope to continue to do.
